Onlay Restorations - Robert A. Morabito, DDS
Saving your natural teeth and creating a flawless, beautiful smile is important to our cosmetic and restorative dentist, Dr. Robert Morabito. To meet this goal, we restore decayed teeth with dental onlays and ensure an aesthetic result.
Dental Onlays: Partial Coverage Crowns
An onlay covers more of a damaged tooth than a filling, but less than a crown, making it ideal in scenarios where decay is too large to be treated with dental composite. These restorations are perfect for areas where enough healthy enamel exists, making a crown over-treatment.
An onlay is sometimes called a partial crown. This is still a prosthetic but does not encapsulate the entire tooth. Onlays are intended to replace damaged enamel that includes any of the outer walls or cusps, or the tooth. In comparison, an inlay is not intended to replace outer tooth walls, but only enamel in the top center of a tooth.
Treatment for Large Cavities and Decay in Falls Church
If one or more of your teeth has been damaged by moderate decay, a partial coverage or ¾ crown can be fabricated to precisely replace the decayed structures. Before providing treatment, Dr. Morabito takes an impression of your prepared using 3D scanning technology. Your custom, tooth-colored onlay can then be fabricated in our office using CEREC equipment. You can leave our office with a beautiful and restored smile with just one appointment.
